I Think I Might Be An Animist

Animism (from Latin anima, "breath, spirit, life") is the worldview that non-human entities—such as animals, plants, and inanimate objects—possess a spiritual essence.
Animism is used in the anthropology of religion as a term for the belief system of some indigenous tribal peoples, especially prior to the development of organized religion.  Although each culture has its own different mythologies and rituals, "animism" is said to describe the most common, foundational thread of indigenous peoples' "spiritual" or "supernatural" perspectives. The Animistic perspective is so fundamental, mundane, everyday and taken-for-granted that most animistic indigenous people do not even have a word in their languages that corresponds to "animism" (or even "religion"); the term is an anthropological construct.

Yes, i think i might be an animist.
The thought feels good in my heart
It is an honest, easy feeling
like humilty or  a space apart.

It connects me to the trees and seas
and to the worms and dogs and bees,
and republicans and fascists too
and every Hindu, Sikh and Jew

Oh, theology is fine
and i admire the gnostic mind
And thought's ok for those who think it.
Philosophy's nice and i can dig it.

But the old time religion suits me
(animism's as old as old can be)
I'll go  now and hug a tree.

Honestly, I never know how anyone can confidently reject animism.

Chesterton could, and i dislike him for that ability. Christianity's victory over "paganism" through the "gift" of original sin represented. i think. the closing of the coffin lid on animism.
