Questions For My Mind And Heart

http://myemail.constantcontact.com/Richard-Rohr-s-Meditation--Seeing-Our-Shadow.html?soid=1103098668616&aid=PjIWzlWPM-U

Rohr suggests that every person has a psychological or spiritual "shadow." and that every group has a "corporate shadow."  Describe, to the best of your ability, the "corporate shadow" of The United States of America.  Does this concept make any sense?  Is it useful?  More basic perhaps is this question: can i describe my "shadow?"  Is there a more general "homo sapiens sapiens shadow" in which i participate?"  What is the spiritual "shadow of the state?"

What an interesting query! I think of my shadow not as a "dark side" but as the projection of my presence by the energy I absorb, the unintentional impact on those around me. That's not exactly what Rohr means -- except there's his emphasis "The shadow self is not of itself evil; it just allows you to do evil without calling it evil." Overuse of the mineral resources of the planet, carbon emissions, the huge waste stream: those are shadows our activities cast on those who share the planet with us.

I think the US's shadow must be the materialism, consumerism, capitalism, the narrow vision of success, the narrow vision of community.

Thank you, I must look a little more at what shadow meant to Jung and what it might mean to me "corporate shadow' has to be some kind of metaphor but it might be an interesting and useful one
