HERE BEGINNETH THE TWO AND FIFTIETH CHAPTER

How these young presumptuous disciples misunderstand this word “in,” and of the deceits that follow thereon.
Cloud of Unknowing - Christian Classics Ethereal Library

The monk and i so easily disconnect, my twentieth century mind soaked in modernity, his fourteenth century mind watching the modern world begin.  "Heresy" is one of those words that divide us.  To me it is courageous, thoughtful, even in "imitation of Jesus."  To him, watching the stirrings of proto-protestantism, with Islam in full control  of southern Spain and knocking at the Church's door in eastern Europe it must have been a whole different thing.

There are different paths and some seem strange and wrong to the followers of others.  The paths to the divine all involve contemplation and all suggest a similar ethic.  There are many other similarities, because there are obviously paths that lead away from the divine.  Stripped of the attire of its different religious and cultural "vehicles" the perennial philosophy, like the Tao, often seems drab and uninteresting.  To a non-Catholic, all the bowing and kneeling and signing may seem overdone, even hypocritical.

One person's heresy may be another's sacred path.
What seems "effeminate" to one person may another's normal way of being.

I guess i just fear religious bigotry more than i fear Satan.
And we all have bigotry; mine is just different from that of most Americans.
