Who would dare to go nameless in so secure a universe?
Yet, to tell the truth, only the nameless are at home in it.

Faithful Doubter - Thomas Merton - The Fall

I.
Someone has fallen and they can't get up!
i fear it might be me.
Call my name.  If anyone answers
i may be lost.

I am not at home in this universe,
nor in  my own house.
(is the house mine or am i its?)
I am not comfortable here (mea culpa!)
I have an identity which identifies
with some stuff and  not other stuff.
Dualism! (mine and not mine.)
Have i not heard the Word of the Lord?

I am not at home here (mea culpa!)
The terrorists are too terrifying.
(and so are the corporations).
The saints are  too saintly,
the sick and frail too sick and frail.
(and the patients are so damnned ungrateful)
and everything else is too modern.
(When is this "post-modern" world,
i read so much about in school?)

I have not lost myself, so cannot find It.(mea culpa)
God cannot come to me while i'm still here.
Named, i am manifest desire,(through my most grievous fault)
Unnamed i could be one with Tao.

For a few minutes, i thought the poem was by Merton and so strangely resonate with the now. (I ignore titles at my peril.)

I enjoyed reading, thank you.
