Arabia before Islam | A Restatement of the History of Islam and Muslims | Books on Islam and Muslims | Al-Islam.org

This is a Muslim source.  I take issue with  the uses of terms like "lawlessness" and "Anarchy."
But the discription fits well with what i know of pastoral society, and it is not a pretty picture.  For me it explains much of the  harshness of tone of the Koran, the  constant theme of the eternal  fires of  hell, and (assuming that polytheism was thought  to be  linked to the persistent cruelties and perversions alluded to in  the Koran), the disgust with idolatry,

Question?  How far removed (in terms of time, space, culture, memory, perspective) were the inhabitants of Makkah (Mecca) and Yahtrib (Medinah) from their nomadic ancestors?  Did they simply add usury and greed to the already long list of  offenses against humanity?
