Umar Ibn al-Farid: Resist the calls of wrangling talk (from The Poem of the Sufi Way)
Umar Ibn al-Fararid has thirteen poems on Poetry Chaikhana. All of them touch me; almost all of them are beyond me. I have read most of them three or four times without understanding them (I should have said "without appreciating them.") but I plan to read each one again and again (in English, alas I do not read Arabic). Each poem has a few words or a few lines that tell me there is more there than I am reading or seeing.
This poem: "resust the quarrels of wrangling talk" is an exception to the above. It spoke to me immediately, loudly, truthfully, and critically.
