Father Rohr will get labeled "heretic" for this meditation, but i love it.!

It does remind me though that "The Eastern Church (Egypt, Ethiopia, Syria, Eastern Europe) is not "The Church of the East" (Persia, Central Asia, "ancient" India and China).  If we Westerners are ignorant of Eastern Orthodox Christianity, we are even more unaware of early Christianity even "farther east."

Jesus tried to make us conscious of what mystics in China and India already knew: that all is One, and only our monkey minds keep us from that awareness.  In The Sutra of Returning to Our Original Nature, Jesus is presented as giving a basically Taoist/Buddhist lecture.  The so called "fundamentals" of Christianity are barely hinted at.  Jesus taught the "perennial philosophy:" that he and the rest of us are children of God.and that we are capable of acting as though we were.

Whether they know Thee or not
     all creatures of the world
now and forever-without-end
     bend but toward Thee.
All love for someone else
     is but a whiff
of Thy perfume:
     none else can be loved.

That "bending" toward the divine often seems to me so "twisted" that i cannot recognize it for what it is. Thank God for mystics and poets!Read more...Collapse )
