More From Hadewijch - The Madness Of Love

The madness of love

by Hadewijch

English version by Oliver Davies
Original Language Dutch

The madness of loveM
Is a blessed fate;
And if we understood this
We would seek no other:
It brings into unity
What was divided,
And this is the truth:
Bitterness it makes sweet,
It makes the stranger a neighbor,
And what was lowly it raises on high.

Still More Poetry By Hadewijch - Tighten

Tighten

by Hadewijch

English version by Jane Hirshfield
Original Language Dutch

Tighten
to nothing
the circle
that is
the world's things

Then the Naked
circle
can grow wide,
enlarging,
embracing all

Hadewijch - You Who Want

You who want

by Hadewijch

English version by Jane Hirshfield
Original Language Dutch

You who want
knowledge,
seek the Oneness
within

There you
will find
the clear mirror
already waiting

Poetry Chaikhana | Hadewijch - You who want

I think the Beguines were pretty amazing women
But i doubt that any 13th century Dutch woman
Would have known anything about
Taoism or Buddhism.

Where does this come from?!
From the Church?
From herself?
From the perennial philosophy?
All of the above?

The End Of An Era?

Marcella Pattyn, the last traditional beguine in the world, died on 14 April 2013 in Kortrijk at the age of 92[6].
