Tao Te Ching, Chapter 75 - Cost and Value

Why are the people starving?
Because the rulers eat up the money in taxes.
Therefore the people are starving.

Why are the people rebellious?
Because the rulers interfere too much.
Therefore they are rebellious.

Why do the people think so little of death?
Because the rulers demand too much of life.
Therefore the people take death lightly.

Having little to live on, one knows better than to value life too much.

Writer's Block: Looney times

What was your favorite childhood cartoon, and why?

My childhood ended before the advent of commercial television.  The only cartoons i ever saw were those rare occasions when i went to the movies or somebody bought around some eight milimeter film to entertain us.  I don't think i saw a motion picture cartoon until WWII and then it was mostly propaganda.  Most of the villians (i remember Peg Leg Pete (from Mickey Mouse) and Blutto (from Popeye) were Nazis.
There were newspaper cartoons, of course, Blondie, Gasoline Alley, Ally Oop, Casper Milktoast, Katzenjammer Kids, all of which i remember as being pretty unfunny.  Somehow i remember remembering Tom and Jerry,  and Heckel and Jeckel, but i don't think they came along until i was an adult.  I remember liking Mickey Mouse and Pluto, but i have no idea why.  When i watch chidren's cartoons from that era today, i cringe.  Comedies for adults, however were great: Buster Keaton, Charlotte Greenwood,, Charlie Chaplin, Laurel and Hardy, incredibly good physical comedy,
