Tao Te Ching: Chapter 27- Sharity

A good walker leaves no tracks;
A good speaker makes no slips;
A good reckoner needs no tally.
A good door needs no lock,
Yet no one can open it.
Good binding requires no knots,
Yet no one can loosen it.

Therefore the sage takes care of all men
And abandons no one.
He takes care of all things
And abandons nothing.

This is called "following the light."

What is a good man?
A teacher of a bad man.
What is a bad man?
A good man's charge.
If the teacher is not respected,
And the student not cared for,
Confusion will arise, however clever one is.
This is the crux of mystery.

"...For Such is the Kingdom...

I posted Saturday on the Feast of the Virgin of Guadeloupe, suggesting that my experience had been more critical than spiritual.  Four of my favorite LJ friends expressed, each in his or her own way, what i took to be sympathy for my loss.  This led me to rethink the experience and remember a part of it which i had not really forgotten because it was unforgettable.

After Mass there was another feast.  It was called a "reception" but for someone who has been doing his own "cooking" for seven years. it was, indeed, a feast.  The parish hall was filled, beyond fire code capacity i am sure.  The line for food was long and beyond chaotic.  I stepped into what i thought was the back of the line to patiently wait my turn.  After a while i felt an urge to look behjnd me.  There she stood, a girl of about eight years, wearing a bright red dress with white trim, obviously in honor of "the lady" wearing large eye glasses, and smiling at me.  She was  there with her grandmother and several (eight i think) sisters and cousins,  Each of whom would have been more attractive than she, except for that smile.  I know a lot of words for describing a beautiful smile, but none of them do justice to this one.  She was looking at me with what appeared to be wonder; but i was the one who was truly in awe.  Her smile seemed to fill the room, the world.
It turned out, i think that she was "wondering" why i had cut in line between her and her aunt, who was obviously her custodian for the evening.

That smile is with me still, i hope it always will be.  Collapse )
