"Sermon" Meditation III, Love your enemy

"I am telling you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you.

Jesus says i must love my enemies, that i should help those who hurt me, bless those who curse me, do good for those who do me wrong.

This is not as easy as it sounds, or as hard either.  Jesus had to learn as he went along (no omniscient scion he), talking trash about his family, calling the Syro-Phoenician woman a dog  (his alleged trash talk about pharisees and  "Jews" i blame on the Christians).
But Jesus learned fast.  Legend has him reconciled with his mother at the cross, and he instantly recognized that the Syro-Phoenician woman's spiritual insight was superior to his own.  Jesus was all about forgiveness, instant forgiveness, unconditional forgiveness., for others and for himself.

I believe i have no enemies except those i recognize as such.  One possible solution to the problem of loving enemies is a short memory,  A short memory is not a mental failure; sometimes it is a mental safety valve; but usually, it is a matter of choice.  I choose to hold this grudge or i choose to drop it.

But, as suggested, even idiots (well tax collectors or wrongdoers anyway) do as much.  I must know that that the other is an enemy, know he or she wants to kill me and might succeed in doing it, know that she or he stands for what i can't stand and can't stand what i stand for, and love him (or her) anyway.

Grant me, in this moment, an open heart.  Amen.
